Based on media events, personal experiences, interviews, and some aspects of the Bible, AMERICAN BURKA is a wild look at how American identity, consumer culture, political structures and organized religion affect the lives of women and girls in the United States. We all wear our own "American burkas," literal and figurative, in terms of how myths of religion, nationhood, and gender operate to limit our sense of what is possible. Dallas and Texas in general are featured prominently; Andrea Yates to Enron to Karla Faye Tucker, nothing is left untouched.
