Producers & Directors
Combined General Auditions
Dallas Theater Companies,
Echo Theatre is hosting combined general auditions at the Bath House Cultural Center on December 6, from 9am – 3:30pm.
The audition format is short monologues – the time limit is 60 seconds.
Directors will have the opportunity to give some direction to the actor, and see them make the adjustment. Because we are going to work with the actor a little, we are encouraging them to bring a copy of their monologue to refer to. We will only have time for one or two fairly quick directions.
You will have access to an online directory of actor's information before the day of auditions, and may print it, if you want to take notes directly on their “headshots.”
We will try to see as many actors as possible, so we will keep a brisk pace. We will take regular short breaks, and will have snacks available, but will not take a long lunch break.
To Participate:
-
All actors in your productions must be paid.
-
Send one or two representatives who can be at the Bath House (521 East Lawther, 75218) from 9am – 3:30. They should be directors or producers – someone who will be comfortable giving direction, if you choose. They need not be the same people all day.
-
If you can, we would appreciate an additional volunteer to help in the lobby with check-in. This volunteer could either work 9-12, or 12-3.
-
Send a small file of your logo to post as a “Participating Theater.”
-
Send a URL of your theater’s website, that your logo will link to.
-
Let us know if you ever hire Equity actors, and how many contracts per year.
-
Let us know how many productions you have planned through the end of 2026.
That’s it. We know this is short notice, and may not be ideal timing. This opportunity came up quickly, and we decided to seize it. We intend to continue these combined generals as a regular part of our programming. We will discuss preferred months for future events on December 6.
20 years ago, Dallas held combined General Auditions. They became an important way for smaller theaters to gather and attract a large pool of talent. The efficiency of getting many actors and many theaters in the same room benefited everyone.
