Unlocking Impulse
with Mak Shealy
July 20 / 10am-1pm CT

This workshop will work to shake loose any stifling forces, root down into embodiment and free up the most fun impulses for characters (or to throw at your characters). There will be prompt work throughout the class with a set of exercises to deepen understanding of character background information.

Award-winning playwright Alex Lin shares critical approaches to modernizing classical texts into contemporary stories for women, LGBTQIA+, and POC voices.

Building Strong Play Structures
with Kaela Mei-Shing Garvin

In this playwriting class, students will examine play structures that align with and diverge from traditional Aristotelian arcs, looking at varied examples of how form and content can be in conversation with each other with ideas from Sarah Ruhl, Suzan-Lori Parks, and Paula Vogel. Together we'll complete writing exercises, build outlines, and dream up plays that have distinctive forms.
